If you’ve ever been to Sanibel Island, Florida, chances are you’ve visited the late Norm Zeigler’s legendary fly shop. The Crystal Schminnow, alias Sanibel Schminnow is above all a killer snook fly for fishing the troughs of white sand bottom beaches, but works effectively under mangrove branches alike. Norm created the fly as ‘half shrimp, half baitfish’ – perfect as an all-around choice for the undecided angler . Unsurprisingly, it fishes just about any inshore saltwater species from redfish to spotted sea trout, but can also successfully be used in freshwater. Try it out for coastal sea trout too with a long slow strip and pop! Tied on a Gamakatsu SL11-3H saltwater hook.
